What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial titanium roots inserted in the jawbone that once integrated are able to support new fixed teeth. The implanted teeth have a natural appearance and can easily regain the strength and comfort of real teeth.

When are implants an appropiate solution?

When one or several teeth have been lost.

How are implants placed? Does it hurt?

Implant placement is a painless surgical procedure, with the help of either local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation. Post-surgical healing presents no complications. Modern microsurgical techniques are minimally invasive, allowing a speedy recovery and causing less pain and scarring. In more complex cases where multiple implants are placed, bone or connective tissue grafting may be needed, thus requiring a more advanced surgery. The possibilities of post-surgical complications in such cases slightly increase.

What is the success rate?

At CAMBRA CLINIC, we have achieved a successful implant outcome in about 98,5% of the cases. The use of 3D CT scan diagnosis and the surgical placement of implants in a safe and sterile surgical environment have been key factors to this success. When the implant does not integrate in the bone (1,5% of the cases) it does not necessarily imply a rejection but rather a lack of stability between the bone and the implant. Therefore, the implant can be replaced after some time.

How long should I wait between implant and teeth placement?

It depends on the quality of the bone and the location where the implants have osseointegrated. In the most favorable situations waiting time can be minimum (24 hours when bone quality is optimal). In the standard situations the osseointegration time around 2 months.

Is there an age limit for implant placement?

Absolutely not. Aged people benefit the most from dental implants.

How long do implants last?

With the appropriate treatment and with an optimal preventive and maintenance follow-up, implants may last more than 20 years.

What does immediate loading (teeth in one day) mean?

To favor patients' comfort, teeth extraction, implant and placement of the prosthetic restoration can be done within the same day. This procedure, however, is only possible when the bone is strong enough to provide the implants with the necessary stability.
